The World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) is a special competition where people from all over the world show off their talents in things like singing, dancing, acting, and more. It’s kind of like the Olympics but for performing instead of sports.

Both WCOPA and the Olympics have teams from different countries, big opening ceremonies, and medals like Gold, Silver, and Bronze. But WCOPA has some cool stuff that the Olympics doesn’t. For example, there are special training camps to help contestants improve, and events called “go-sees” where participants can meet important people who might help them become famous.

WCOPA has three rounds of competitions. In Round 1, called the “medalling round,” contestants perform in their categories, and judges from Hollywood decide who gets medals and awards. The best ones move on to Round 2.

In Round 2, called the “semifinals,” there are new judges who haven’t seen the contestants before. They’re looking for people who have something special and could be popular. The top performers here go to the final round.

In Round 3, called the “finals,” contestants work super hard and practice a lot. There’s another new set of judges, and they decide who the best performers in each category are. At the end of the show, one person is named the Grand Champion Performer of the World, which means they’re the best overall!

The next day, everyone gets their medals and awards from Round 1 in a big ceremony.

Unlike the Olympics, where you can be a champion in just one sport, like running or swimming, WCOPA looks for the very best performer out of all the categories. It’s a big deal to win the Grand Champion title because it means you’re the best of the best!

In 2024, WCOPA was held in Long Beach, California. Here are some Team Canada videos that documented the exciting event!
